Chainbase has announced a strategic agreement with Walrus to develop an advanced Data Accessibility Layer, which will address some of the most critical concerns in Web3 and AI data ecosystems. This cooperation will combine Walrus' cutting-edge decentralized storage capabilities with Chainbase's enterprise-grade data architecture to provide a strong, scalable, and trustless foundation for the future of data.
At the heart of this collaboration is the integration of Chainbase's foundational Data Accessibility Layer into the Walrus ecosystem. This layer is intended to ingest, verify, and immutably store enormous amounts of both on-chain and off-chain data, acting as the foundation for AI models, decentralized apps (dApps), and blockchain-based systems across over 200 networks.
Chainbase, currently managing over 300 terabytes of blockchain data, is rapidly emerging as one of the largest enterprise adopters of decentralized storage. By building its infrastructure on Walrus, Chainbase aims to:
Solve the Data Scalability Problem: Store vast amounts of raw blockchain data in a cost-efficient and decentralized manner.
Ensure Data Integrity with Zero-Knowledge Proofs: Use advanced cryptographic techniques to guarantee source authenticity and freshness.
Unify Fragmented Blockchain Data: Aggregate and standardize data from hundreds of chains into a cohesive and accessible format.
Support Trustless AI Workflows: Empower decentralized Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems and AI agents with verifiable, high-quality data sources.
This level of deep technical integration not only strengthens Chainbase’s capabilities, but positions Walrus as a core infrastructure provider for the future of decentralized intelligence.
At the core of the Chainbase–Walrus collaboration is the development of a high-performance, decentralized data lake architecture—designed for massive scalability, real-time updates, and enterprise-grade integrity. This data lake is now being brought to life through WalruS3, an open-source, S3-compatible interface developed by Chainbase and available on Github.
WalruS3 enables developers to seamlessly interact with Walrus as they would with traditional cloud storage solutions, allowing existing cloud-native tools and workflows to integrate directly with decentralized infrastructure. Developers are encouraged to explore, test, and contribute to WalruS3 to accelerate adoption and performance validation ahead of Walrus mainnet.
The first phase of this deployment focuses on integrating Ethereum blockchain data—approximately 2TB—as a real-world stress test. This initial dataset will be used to assess storage cost-efficiency, performance, and reliability of the Walrus network in its mainnet phase. Insights from this trial will inform scaling decisions for broader cross-chain data integration in the following quarters.
In parallel, the architecture introduces advanced mechanisms to ensure data quality and accessibility:
Change Data Capture (CDC): Ensures real-time updates while addressing blockchain reorganization issues.
Manifest and Changelog Systems: Enable shard-level data indexing, retrieval, and update tracking.
Zero-Knowledge Proofs (ZKPs): Provide cryptographic guarantees for data authenticity and source verification.
Storage-based Consensus Paradigm (SCP): A novel consensus approach focused on validating data availability through storage proofs rather than traditional computation-heavy consensus models.
This distributed, verifiable, and developer-friendly infrastructure lays the groundwork for powering applications in Web3, AI, and beyond—while showcasing Walrus as a truly production-ready, decentralized storage protocol.
The Chainbase-Walrus collaboration extends far beyond infrastructure—it unlocks entirely new ecosystems of builders, researchers, and AI developers.
By Q3 2025, the project will integrate majority of Chainbase’s blockchain data into the Walrus network, establishing one of the most comprehensive decentralized data repositories ever assembled. This will feed directly into Chainbase’s Manuscript data framework, giving developers access to structured blockchain datasets and prebuilt templates for building AI-ready data pipelines.
The roadmap culminates in Q4 2025 with the launch of a modular, decentralized Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) system, built on Walrus. Designed for AI agents and LLMs, this system will offer verifiable access to blockchain data across chains, support semantic search, and create a new standard for trustworthy data-driven AI applications. It will also feature a marketplace for models and datasets, empowering developers and researchers to share and monetize their contributions.
“This partnership is a landmark step toward making decentralized data truly accessible, trustworthy, and scalable,” said the Chainbase leadership team. “By integrating with Walrus, we’re not just solving today’s data challenges—we’re building the infrastructure that will power AI, DeFi, and the decentralized internet for decades to come.”
Walrus echoed the sentiment: “Chainbase brings unparalleled scale, experience, and vision in managing blockchain data. This collaboration validates Walrus as a production-grade storage layer and expands our mission to support the next wave of Web3 and AI innovation.”
Chainbase is the world’s largest omnichain data network designed to integrate all blockchain data into a unified ecosystem, providing an open and transparent data interoperability layer for the AI era.
It has designed a novel dual-consensus technology architecture that bridges the programmability and composability of crypto data, which supports high throughput, low latency, and eventual determinism, as well as higher cybersecurity through a dual staking model. With Chainbase, people can truly enjoy the benefits of the open internet era.
